Other countries more progressive than US
I just read an article that Hungary inaugurated construction of their National Radioactive Waste Repository. It took them about 10 years, from initial concept, but it's being build and it will accommodate up to 40,000 cm of waste from their 4 reactors! What? Four reactors? Indeed, 43% of Hungary's power needs are met by their four reactors. What happened to the US waste repository? Wait, don't answer that
Re: Other countries more progressive than US
Oh really? So, should we model the US nuclear policy after what Hungary is doing? Are you serious? There was good reason that the US repository in NV was cancelled. There should be more focus on safer technologies and having such a facility would have just encouraged more spent fuel to be produced - not a very responsible thing.
Anger is a good motivator!
Re: Other countries more progressive than US
Phil_Jion, Hungary may be the latest addition, and I don't know about spent fuel, but there are low level waste repositories operating, or under construction, in Spain, The UK, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Japan, France, India, Bulgaria, Belgium and other countries. SO, Hungary is not teh first to construct a repository.

Sorry Helen22, I didn't mean to sound whinny. I was just saying that I wish we could get our energy act together, in this country, and become the leaders we used to be in the nuclear power. One can hope for it, can't he?
