Tools for creating architect diagrams?
Tools for creating architect diagrams?
Any recommendations for software tools that one can use to create architect diagrams? Open source (free) would be preferred

DIA is a very good open source program for creating all sorts of diagrams, like UMLs, Use Case diagrams, Entity relationship diagrams, sequence diagrams, etc.WarrenT wrote:Any recommendations for software tools that one can use to create architect diagrams? Open source (free) would be preferred

I've used dia in the past and found it pretty good (did not use it for architect diagrams though).
I have also used modelio, which is a java-based diagramming program and found it very good.

I've also used Dia and think it's a very good tool. Most often, when I need any type of flowchart/diagram, I end up using MS-Visio, since I've used it for years and I am familiar with it. Not a free program, but well-worth the $$ in my opinion.
It also depends on what you are trying to chart! I have also used Prototyper for laying out rough app user interfaces.
You've got to select the right tool for the job at hand

I've used modelio and StarUML. They are both pretty good, but each one has its own shortcomings. I haven't used DIA, but have heard lots of good things about it. I may give it a try.

DIA is very similar to MS-Visio and can be used to create lots of different diagrams. I use it all the time and strongly recommend it.
