Re: Thorium Based Nuclear Power - Docs
The LEAD-IR concept sounds very promising. I've been trying to educate myself on t he old SNAP technology and the newer SMR proposals (I believe the old, huge power plant concept is outdated), and this LEAD-IR concept sounds very interesting. Now, let's see whether it catches on. I also have to say ...

Re: New, small, self-contained nuclear plants
The big question is (and always will be), how much safer, if any, these systems are compared to (a) current nukes, (b) the new AP1000 designs and (c) other (larger) proposed SMRs. (a) No comparison, they use passive safer systems, (b) much safer than even the AP1000 because of the size and the all-...

Re: New, small, self-contained nuclear plants
Why would something like this be preferable to a 100 MW or 200 MW unit, i.e., the more mainstream SMRs proposed? There are cases where the higher rated system is not needed. But output power is only ONE consideration, when deciding what to get. The beauty of this appears to be that it is an all-inc...

New, small, self-contained nuclear plants
These new, small proposed, pre-packaged reactors may be the answer to some of today's energy needs. About 25 MWe, good for 10 years, self-contained, pre-fabbed, underground,...

Re: NRC - Post Fukushima - External Events
O.K., So I found the other supporting documents and I am posting all of them here. I have a sequence # at the beginning to roughly approximate the logical sequence in which they were released/developed.

Re: NRC - Post Fukushima - External Events
Well, this is great and sounds good, but other that a pretty complete list of what utilities are affected, this is not very informative. All it says is that you have to address these 3 stages of the problem, but there is NO GUIDANCE on how to address them or what would constitute an acceptable solu...

SMRs, definitely. All the other options are re-hashed technology.

Re: SCILAB 5.3.3
Excellent thread. I am very new to SCILAB, having worked with a number of "classic" programming languages in the past, and I find it very powerful. While trying to learn how to use this wonderful tool, I am going through some simple applications and one of them is giving me a hard time. I...
